    Description

    Nonprofit Accountant

    Seeking up to two (2) accountants with nonprofit experience to manage accounting responsibilities.

    Financial Management & Reporting The Nonprofit Accountant will manage day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger maintenance, and bank reconciliations. You'll prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards. This role requires preparing financial reports for the Board of Directors, executive leadership, and external stakeholders, ensuring all reporting accurately reflects our fund accounting structure and restricted vs. unrestricted funds.

    Grant & Fund Accounting You'll track and manage multiple funding sources, including government grants, foundation funding, and individual donations.

    Budget Management The Nonprofit Accountant will assist in developing the annual organizational budget and program-specific budgets, monitor budget-to-actual variances, and provide regular budget updates to leadership.

    Compliance & Audit Support This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing nonprofit organizations, including Form 990 preparation support. You'll maintain documentation for audit purposes, coordinate with external auditors during annual audits, and implement internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.

    Additional Duties You'll assist with financial aspects of fundraising campaigns and events, and maintain organized financial records and documentation systems.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
    • 3-5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in nonprofit accounting
    • Strong understanding of fund accounting principles and nonprofit financial management
    • Proficiency in accounting software (experience with nonprofit-specific platforms like Blackbaud Financial Edge, QuickBooks Nonprofit, Hubdocs, or similar preferred)
    • Advanced Excel skills
    • Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
    • Experience with grant accounting and reporting

    Preferred Qualifications

    • CPA or CPA candidate
    • Experience with federal grant management and compliance (OMB regulations, A-133 audits)
    • Familiarity with donor database systems
    • Previous experience with nonprofit audits
