    Description

    The Heart of Art is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to using the performing arts as a gateway to foster literacy, education, creativity, and community building. We empower children and youth through programs that combine the magic of storytelling with the transformative power of the arts.

    • Term of Service- April 1, 2026 – April 1, 2028 (Two-Year Term)
    • Annual Board ContributionGive-or-Get Requirement: $1,000 per year
    • Location PreferenceDMV residents strongly preferred (Washington, DC; Maryland; Virginia)

    General Expectations

    All board members are expected to actively participate in governance, attend meetings, support fundraising, maintain confidentiality, and provide strategic guidance for organizational growth.

    The Treasurer serves as the Board’s financial steward, ensuring The Heart of Art maintains fiscal integrity, transparency, and sustainability. This leader works closely with the Executive Director to oversee budgets, monitor financial performance, and guide responsible growth.

    Key Responsibilities

    Financial Oversight

    • Review monthly financial reports, budgets, and cash flow
    • Provide updates to the Board regarding financial health and risk
    • Ensure sound financial controls and accountability

    Budgeting & Planning

    • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop annual budgets
    • Support financial forecasting and long-term sustainability planning
    • Advise on responsible allocation of resources

    Compliance & Audit Support

    • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and nonprofit best practices
    • Support preparation for annual audits and required filings

    Fundraising Strategy

    • Provide insight into fundraising goals, revenue strategy, and donor sustainability
    • Support the board’s give-or-get culture through leadership and planning

    Qualifications

    • Background in finance, non-profit accounting, budgeting, or nonprofit management
    • Strong integrity, analytical thinking, and attention to detail
    • DMV residency preferred

    Time Commitment

    Approximately 15–20 hours/month
