    Description

IFDP|Food First is a fully remote, global nonprofit organization with staff and contractors located across multiple U.S. states and international regions. To strengthen organizational consistency, compliance, and operational excellence, the organization seeks a skilled professional to develop a comprehensive set of operational manuals, including guidelines, policies, and procedures that reflect best practices for a virtual, distributed workforce.

The manuals will serve as the central reference for internal operations, ensuring clarity, alignment, and accountability across all functions.

    Objectives

The primary objectives of this engagement include:

    • Creation of a unified operational manual that documents all core organizational processes.
    • Standardization of policies and procedures across departments and geographies.
    • Strengthening internal governance through clear, accessible documentation.
    • Ensuring compliance with relevant U.S. and international regulations applicable to nonprofit operations and remote work.
    • Improving onboarding and staff training through well‑structured, easy‑to‑use manuals.

    Discovery & Assessment

The professional will conduct a thorough assessment of current organizational practices, including:

    • Review of existing documents (policies, SOPs, templates, handbooks).
    • Interviews with key staff and leadership to understand workflows and pain points.
    • Gap analysis to identify missing or outdated policies.
    • Benchmarking against nonprofit best practices for remote and global teams.

    Final Deliverables

    The engagement will conclude with:

    • A complete, professionally formatted set of operational manuals in digital format.
    • A master index or navigation guide for easy reference.
    • A recommended update schedule for maintaining relevance.
    • Optional: a training session or orientation for staff on how to use the manuals.

    Qualifications

    The ideal professional will have:

    • Experience in operations, compliance, or organizational development.
    • Demonstrated skill in policy writing and process documentation.
    • Familiarity with remote and international workforce considerations.
    • Strong communication and facilitation skills.
