    Description

IRCOSUN Community Schools provide after-school academic support, enrichment activities, and essential wraparound services to students and families from various backgrounds. Our goal is to create a welcoming, engaging, and safe space where students can explore interests, strengthen skills, and build positive connections with peers and trusted adults. Volunteers play an important role in helping students succeed both inside and outside the classroom, whether through tutoring, facilitating activities, or assisting with program operations.

Volunteers will work under the direction of a IRCO SUN Site Manager to support activities and learning opportunities for students K-12. Depending on program needs, volunteers may:

    • Assist students with homework and skill-building in reading, writing, math, and science.
    • Support enrichment classes such as cooking, sports, dance, art, and STEM activities.
    • Help supervise recess, games, or group activities.
    • Engage in conversation and relationship-building with students, including those who are non-native English speakers.
    • Provide general program support such as setting up activities, distributing snacks/meals, and assisting with events.
      • Interest in working with students from elementary through high school.
      • Patience, reliability, and a positive approach to supporting youth.
      • Comfort interacting with students and families from various backgrounds, including multilingual and multicultural communities.
      • Preferred qualifications include bilingual skills and bicultural experience. (Languages including but not limited to Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, French, Arabic, Somali, Oromo, Vietnamese, Burmese, Chuukese, Haitian, Dari, Mandarin, Amharic, Swahili, Rohingya.)
      • Willingness to follow staff direction and program guidelines.
      • At least 1 day a week for full program duration
