    Description

    Empower survivors through advocacy!

    Become an Advocate

Are you interested in helping empower survivors and their families? Volunteer Advocates are at the heart of Center for Hope & Safety. As a volunteer with CHS you are an integral part of our agency and help allow our agency to provide 24-hour direct support services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking in our community.

    Role

CHS offers services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. These wraparound services include providing emotional support, crisis intervention, safety planning, and education. CHS is also able to promote public awareness and provide community resources and referrals.

    Requirements

    • Must be 18 years or older
    • Complete CHS’s Advocate Training Program
    • Commit to supporting CHS’s Mission Statement, philosophy, and policies
    • Maintain confidentiality
    • Accepting of others
    • Practice empathy
    • Active listening skills
    • Able to set and keep healthy boundaries
    • Pass a criminal background check

    Advocate Training

Advocate Training is available in-person three times a year, once in the winter, spring, and fall. During advocate training, volunteers learn about the dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking, oppression, and other skills necessary to become a volunteer advocate. Each volunteer receives an official certificate upon completion of Advocate Training.

    Time Commitment

Any time given as a volunteer to CHS is valuable. CHS requires that each volunteer advocate completes one hotline or office shift each month for a minimum of six months. Whether the volunteer chooses to help on the crisis line or in our office, it will make a difference in someone’s life.
