    Description

    Thanksgiving Food Distribution Mon 11/24/2025

    We have been seeing 650-700 families each week, and we expect EVEN more for this year's Thanksgiving Week distribution. The LA Regional Food Bank brings enough for about 700 households, while Central & Friends collect and sort Side Dish items to supplement and go beyond what the Food Bank offeres for Thanksgiving week.

    This takes LOTS OF EXTRA volunteers for client intake, regular food distribution, and more for the Side Dish distribution! We have some jobs that have you lifting up to 40 pounds, some that have you deposting food items into folks bags / carts in the regular Food line, and some that have you depositing side items into food bags / carts in the additional items area. Our intake team may also need some extra hands to get all the manual sign-ins done in two hours - while our trained volunteers largely handle regular clients who can scan in with bar code cards.

    Directions

    Parking will be on the surrounding streets or at the SP Parking on Gilmore at Sylmar, about 1.5 blocks away.

    Volunteers should enter through GIlmore gate at Tyrone Ave, to sign in and receive their assignment. DO NOT park in the lot at Victory and Tyrone as this whole area is needed for the different Foods to be distributed. THANKS!

    If you have any limitations in lifting or activity, please note them on that form.

    Wear clothing for working outside (under canopies), and be prepared to help set up and take down canopies (sunscreen, hat). We recommend you bring a water bottle, we will have cold water and pink lemonade to refill you!

    YOU MUST WEAR CLOSED-TOED SHOES, and

    you will be required to wear gloves (we provide nitrile and food service glove options) when handling food.

    You will complete a Civil Rights orientation (5-10 minutes) before you start which prohibits discrimination / denial of food to anyone for any reason whatsoever by our volunteers.
