    Description

Lead the Heart of Our Mission: Volunteer Coordinator

Do you believe in the power of people coming together to create real change? Join The Heather Cutler Foundation as a Volunteer Coordinator and help us build, support, and grow a passionate community of individuals working to change the future of pancreatic cancer care in Canada.

In this vital role, you’ll be the main point of contact for new and returning volunteers, ensuring every person who joins Team Heather feels welcomed, informed, and empowered. You’ll help foster a positive, inclusive environment and build internal systems to track onboarding, engagement, and project participation.

    🟪 Why Join Us?

The Heather Cutler Foundation was founded from lived experience—and our volunteers are at the core of everything we do. We’re a rapidly growing nonprofit, operating with urgency and clarity to address the gaping holes in Canada’s cancer care system, especially for people in smaller provinces.

As our Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll shape the culture and systems that help people from all backgrounds contribute their time and skills to something bigger than themselves. Your work will directly impact how we grow and how we continue to center compassion and equity in everything we do.

    🟪 Responsibilities

    Volunteer Onboarding & Engagement

Coordinate all stages of volunteer onboarding: application review, interviews, forms collection, orientation scheduling, and issuing credentials.

    Volunteer Support & Retention

Maintain regular check-ins, ensure volunteers have the tools and information they need to succeed, and create a sense of community and appreciation.

    Scheduling & Project Matching

Help place volunteers into projects that suit their skills and availability. Track time commitments and align volunteers with the Foundation’s evolving needs.

    Internal Communications

Use tools like Notion, Slack, and Proton to maintain clear, organized records of volunteer involvement and communication threads.

    Documentation & Compliance

Ensure all volunteers have signed required documentation (e.g., confidentiality, AI use, and external communications policies) and that these are up to date and stored securely.

    🟪 Qualifications

    • Strong People Skills: Friendly, organized, and reliable communicator with a commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful environment.
    • Experience in Volunteer Management: Prior experience coordinating volunteers in a nonprofit or community setting preferred.
    • Detail-Oriented: Ability to keep track of many moving parts—from documents to dates to personal stories.
    • Digital Literacy: Comfortable using or learning tools like Notion, Proton, Slack, Google Drive, and scheduling platforms.
    • Independent & Collaborative: Able to work remotely while collaborating closely with the Founder and project leads.
    • Mission-Aligned: Passion for advocacy, equity in healthcare, and community-building. Familiarity with cancer care is a bonus, but not required.

    🟪 Role Details

    • Location: Remote (Canada-based preferred)
    • Time Commitment: ~5–7 hours/week, flexible
    • Employment Type: Volunteer
    • Start Date: As soon as possible
    • Duration: Minimum 3–6 month commitment preferred
    • Supervised by: Founder & Director of Operations
