    About A Free Bird

    A Free Bird is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City. We empower children and teens diagnosed with cancer to explore their artistic passions through art, music, writing, acting, and other creative outlets. By supporting creativity, we help young people build resilience, confidence, and hope during their healing journey.

    Role Overview

    The Management Operations Assistant provides high-level operational and administrative support to the President while helping coordinate communication and workflows across departments. This role serves as a key connector between leadership and department teams, ensuring priorities are tracked, information flows smoothly, and organizational operations stay on course.

    This position is ideal for someone who is highly organized, proactive, and interested in gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit leadership, operations, and management support.

    Key Responsibilities

    Leadership & Department Coordination

    • Serve as a liaison between the President and department managers to support alignment on priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
    • Maintain regular communication with department leads to monitor progress and identify follow-ups or blockers.

    Operations & Administrative Support

    • Manage and update calendars, agendas, and supporting documents for leadership.
    • Organize, maintain, and safeguard digital files and records critical to daily operations.
    • Conduct research and prepare summaries, reports, and internal documentation as requested.

    Meeting & Workflow Management

    • Coordinate, attend, and document department and leadership meetings as needed.
    • Track action items and ensure timely follow-up across teams.
    • Support workflow organization and process improvements to enhance efficiency.

    Professional Communication

    • Respond to emails, messages, and requests in a professional, timely, and courteous manner.
    • Assist with drafting internal communications and administrative correspondence.

    Qualifications

    • Experience providing administrative, operational, or management support (professional, volunteer, or internship experience accepted).
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail.
    • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to multitask, adapt to changing priorities, and work independently in a remote environment.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar).

    Additional Information

    • Remote volunteer position requiring 5–10 hours per week.
    • Minimum commitment: 3 months.
    • Reliable access to a computer, internet, and video/phone conferencing required.
    • Interviews will resume on January 13.
