    Board Member – Human Resources & Administration (Remote/Unpaid Volunteer):

    The Board Member for HR & Administration supports the governance and strategic development of EF’s people practices, while also serving as a visible ambassador of the organization. This role provides HR oversight, champions diversity and engagement, and contributes to organizational strategy by advising the Director of HR & Administration. In addition, this board member helps raise EF’s public profile and cultivates meaningful partnerships and funding opportunities that advance the mission.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide strategic oversight and guidance on HR policies, equity, and volunteer engagement
    • Support succession planning, organizational structure, and leadership development across EF
    • Advise the Director of HR & Administration on key people initiatives and volunteer experience strategy
    • Champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and wellness at the board level and across all programs
    • Represent EF publicly to raise awareness, build credibility, and strengthen community ties
    • Cultivate donor, partner, and community relationships to support organizational growth and sustainability
    • Attend monthly board meetings (virtual or in-person as scheduled) and contribute to key discussions and decisions
    • Participate in at least one board committee or special project to support cross-functional initiatives
    • Contribute to strategic planning, organizational oversight, and policy alignment at the board level
    • Assist with fundraising, outreach, and community engagement efforts to advance EF’s mission
    • Act as an ambassador for Empowered Futures, upholding its values and representing the organization in the community
    • Provide governance, accountability, and fiduciary oversight as part of the board’s collective responsibility
    • Collaborate with the Board Chair and Strategic Advisor to ensure alignment between people strategy, governance priorities, and EF’s long-term goals

    Qualifications:

    • 5+ years of experience in human resources leadership, board governance, or nonprofit management
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related field required. Master’s degree or equivalent leadership experience is an asset.
    • Strong understanding of strategic HR practices, DEI principles, and volunteer engagement
    • Excellent communication, organizational development, and relationship-building skills
    • Proven ability to serve as a public representative
    • Experience in fundraising, partnership cultivation, or nonprofit advocacy is an asset
    • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote, volunteer-based organization
    • Passionate about youth empowerment, mentorship, and sustainable organizational development

    This is a part-time and unpaid volunteer position (2-3 hours a week)

    Attendance at all regular monthly board meetings (every 2nd Tuesday of the month).
