    Description

    Organization: Good Neighbors Network

Location: Greater Boston / Remote / Quarterly on-site presence in Quincy/Boston preferred

Ideal Commitment: Flexible, approx. 8-12 hours per month

    Role Summary:

Help build the financial foundation of a rapidly growing mutual aid network. We are seeking a meticulous, mission-driven finance leader to join us as a Founding Board Member and Treasurer as we incorporate into a 501(c)(3).

    About Us:

The Good Neighbors Network is a grassroots organization transitioning from a successful pilot phase into a formal nonprofit. We are a community of neighbors building a more connected Boston through mutual aid and food security. Our centerpiece program is a high-impact community food pantry in North Quincy that is currently scaling from monthly to bi-monthly service to meet growing local needs.

    What We're Looking For:

We are seeking a Treasurer to join our inaugural Board of Directors. This is a rare opportunity to be a "founding" leader during a critical transition. You will help us move from a community project to a fully incorporated 501(c)(3) nonprofit, ensuring our financial foundation is as strong and meticulous as our mission. Work in conjunction with our nonprofit consultant who is guiding us through the incorporation process.

    Responsibilities:

    • Strategic Financial Oversight: Help establish our first formal annual budget, top-of-the-line financial standards, reporting, and compliance systems
    • Financial Systems: Partner with our Technical Architect and Chief of Staff to implement a transparent, "audit-ready" bookkeeping system (e.g., transitioning to QuickBooks or a similar nonprofit platform).
    • Reporting: Prepare simple monthly financial updates for the board and contribute data to our Impact Reports for grant applications.
    • Fiduciary Governance: Ensure compliance with state and federal filing requirements and help establish internal controls for donations and reimbursements.
    • Banking & Fundraising: Manage the organization’s bank accounts and advise on the financial health of our fundraising funnels (e.g., Zeffy).

    Qualifications:

    • Background in Finance or Operations: Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, financial planning, or nonprofit management (CPAs or MBAs are a plus!).
    • Institutional Mindset: You enjoy building systems that are compliant, transparent, and scalable.
    • Reliability: As a founding board member, your follow-through is critical to the organization’s legal and financial stability.
    • Commitment to Mission: A genuine desire to use your professional skills to fight food insecurity and build community in Greater Boston.

    What You’ll Gain:

    • Founding Impact: The unique satisfaction of being a "Day 1" board member for an organization that is already successfully serving hundreds of neighbors.
    • Leadership Development: Experience navigating the legal and financial journey of nonprofit incorporation.
    • A High-Capacity Team: Join a collaborative leadership matrix that includes a Chief of Staff, a Technical Architect, and an Operations Manager.
    • Real-World Change: You will see exactly how your financial stewardship translates into meals on tables and stronger neighborhood bonds.

Please submit your application through Idealist.org, including your resume and short statement as to why you'd like to join our team. We appreciate your time and interest in our organization!
