    Description

English Instructor Needed: Guide High Performing Students from Low Income Families to Dream Schools

Guide highly motivated high school students from low-income families through a structured writing and critical thinking program involving writing instruction and essay review to take their skills from basic to intermediate and advanced.

We will be serving students for the 2025-2026 school year in person but will prioritize student and volunteer safety and comfort.

Time Commitment: 1-3 hours per week from September - May. These sessions are one hour long and we meet 3-4 times, on Saturday mornings, per month depending on national/public holidays.

More detail: Most writing & critical thinking advisors have a professional or academic focus in writing. Each advisor works with sophomore students in a structured group setting to help take the students’ writing skills from the basic to the intermediate and advanced levels. Advisors review weekly essay assignments and participate in the review of summer program applications. Writing & Critical Thinking Program sessions take place every non-holiday Saturday for one hour in the morning from September through June. Advisors play a crucial role in fundraising. Advisors help to recruit subsequent generations of Minds Matter volunteers and leaders.
