    Description

In Love Your City, we as a team of volunteers, like a league of superheroes, walk into hurting neighborhoods each week and build relationships with every resident. We talk with community residents to identify the obstacles that keep the youth and families living there from reaching their dreams. Alongside community members, we then co-create mentoring and small group-based solutions that help youth and families graduate from school and go on to meaningful employment. These solutions include job skills training, language classes, tutoring centers, college prep, and much more. Very quickly, leaders rise from within the community itself to lead the efforts, allowing Love Your City to scale to new neighborhoods.

The Tuesday night English classes in Norcross began as one of the small group-based solutions that serve the neighborhoods where Love Your City happens. With the expansion of Love Your City, the classes are growing and we need increasingly more volunteers who will fight for the future of families in Gwinnett.

    What to expect on Tuesdays:

At 6:30 PM, we meet as a team of superheroes, I mean... volunteers to talk about the class. Each new volunteer receives a brief training and a Teacher Guide on how to teach the curriculum. In addition, volunteers are supported by a certified ESL teacher.

Then, each volunteer is paired with one to three students at similar levels of English and they work through the curriculum at the pace that is needed.

At the end of class, all students and volunteers come together for a game centered around English conversation skills.

Finally, we all take a picture together and debrief!
