    Description

    Are you a caring adult who wants to make a real difference in a child’s life? The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) is looking for compassionate adults ages 55 and older to serve in schools as mentors, tutors, and role models for children and youth in your community.

    Foster Grandparents provide one-on-one support in school settings, helping children build confidence, improve academic skills, and feel supported and valued.

    Who Can Participate

    • Adults age 55 or better
    • Income-eligible seniors earning less than $31,920 annually (based on program guidelines)
    • Individuals with a caring heart, patience, and a desire to help children succeed
    • No formal teaching experience required

    Volunteer Responsibilities

    Foster Grandparents typically serve 15–40 hours per week and may assist with:

    • Tutoring and mentoring children in reading, math, and other subjects
    • Supporting teachers in classrooms
    • Providing emotional encouragement and positive role modeling
    • Helping children stay focused and engaged
    • Assisting with structured activities and learning exercises

    Volunteers are placed at local schools and community sites that match their interests, skills, and availability.

    • Ability two pass required background checks
    • Willingness to complete orientation and training
