    This is a fully remote volunteer role.

    Random Acts is a non-profit that inspires acts of kindness around the world. We provide a vast network of caring people with the encouragement and support they need to change lives for the better. We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Copy Editor.

    Job Description:

    Reporting to the Writing Manager, the remote Copy Editor reviews internal and external communications for grammatical, punctuation, and spelling accuracy. The Random Acts Copy Editor ensures that documents, articles, and other collateral, as assigned, adhere to the organization’s tone of voice and messaging. A detailed eye and ability to communicate effectively at all levels will connect this role to all departments within the organization.

    Responsibilities:

    • Review website content, blog posts, articles, newsletters, and other collateral as tasked for grammar, punctuation, spelling accuracy, and readability;
    • Review website content, blog posts, articles, newsletters, and other collateral as tasked for adherence to organizational tone of voice and messaging;
    • Double-check that names, places, and organizations are spelled properly and that facts, dates, and statistics are accurate;
    • Contact sources or conduct research to verify facts within articles or statements on the website;
    • Write headlines and subheads for articles, blog posts, and newsletters as needed

    Desired Qualifications and Skills:

    • 2 or more years of editing experience
    • Proficient in using markup and review tools (comments, etc.) within Microsoft Word and Google Docs
    • Working knowledge of AP (Associated Press) style
    • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
    • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices is a plus
    • Bachelor’s in Communications, Journalism, or Marketing a plus
