    Description

Purpose of Position: School Group Hosts serve a critical role in museum guest services by welcoming, engaging, and assisting groups of students, their teachers and chaperones when they arrive at the museum and in the gallery. With up to 300 students coming to visit FCMoD daily during the spring school semester, we focus on our school field trip services. We seek enthusiastic and dependable volunteers who can welcome a school group and their chaperones, briefly orient groups to FCMoD, navigate the group through their itinerary, and help them have a positive experience.

Responsibilities of Position: School Group Hosts watch for school groups to arrive so that they can be greeted outside as soon as they pull up. School Group Hosts will introduce themselves to the group and provide a brief orientation, so they know FCMoD’s expectations. When leading school groups into the Museum, School Group Hosts will ensure they know where to find the restrooms, Learning Labs, OtterBox Digital Dome Theater, and Main Gallery. If the group has scheduled a dome show, School Group Hosts may be asked to operate the theater and show their film for them. After groups have been greeted, School Group Hosts will accompany them in the Museum and assist them through transitions in their schedule.

Please complete an Adult Application through FCMoD’s website. New volunteers are required to attend a General Orientation, in addition to any department-specific training.

    Typical Activities:

    • Greet and orientate the group,
    • Answer general questions and help with wayfinding
    • Gallery host while the group is on the exhibit floor
    • Run the group’s Digital Dome Theater shows, if scheduled

    Skills, knowledge, and qualities needed:

    • Detail-oriented
    • Clear communication
    • Friendly and approachable demeanor
    • Able to adhere to instructions and procedures
    • Eager to learn
    • Responsible and dependable
    • Flexible and solution-oriented
    • Previous experience working with school groups, children, customer service experience and/or experience assisting with public events, organization outreach, or previous volunteering is helpful, but not required
