    Description

    Purpose: To recruit full and part time volunteers, interview potential new counselors, and coordinate the assignment of volunteers in positions assisting in the daily operations of Camp No Worries (CNW), a one-week children's cancer camp serving children diagnosed with cancer, their siblings and bereaved siblings, that takes place June 20th through 27th, 2026.

    Duties and Responsibilities: (full position description available upon request):

    This position reports directly to the Camp Director

    Pre-camp:

    • Coordinate recruitment efforts (for full and part time volunteers) with local organizations, community groups, corporations, colleges, etc.
    • Arrange and conduct new counselor interviews and participate in the selection of new counselors
    • Identify and select lead counselors and work with Assistant Director in counselor pairing with cabin assignments.
    • Attend camp planning meetings to determine part time volunteer needs for specific program areas (arts and crafts, programming, special events, food services).
    • Coordinate all aspects of the re-application of returning counselors and other volunteers.
    • Attend and contribute to pre-camp orientation of new counselors (in early June) and mandatory all-staff training (prior to campers’ arrival)
    • In coordination with Assistant Volunteer Director develop a part time volunteer schedule to support all aspects of CNW
    • Provide all volunteers with the necessary information they need regarding the logistics of camp (directions, check in location, assignments, etc).
    • Obtain criminal background forms from all confirmed part time volunteers.

    During camp:

    • Uphold policies and procedures that affect the operation of Camp No Worries and its campers.
    • Assure the safety of each camper/counselor while participating in activity areas.
    • Maintain a professional, friendly and helpful attitude during all times while on-site at camp.
    • Coordinate with Assistant Volunteer Coordinator to meet part time volunteers upon their arrival on camp grounds to check in and check out when they leave
    • Conduct daily meetings with all lead counselors to address and resolve daily camp issues.
    • Problem-solve scheduling conflicts with Program Director and communicate changes with lead counselors and cabin counselors.
    • Meet daily with the Leadership Team to ensure all volunteer needs are met.

    Post-Camp Follow-up:

    • Conduct recognition of all full and part time volunteers (ie: thank you letters, volunteer hour sign-off, etc.)
    • Engage in evaluation of the CNW volunteer experience.
    • Maintain a volunteer database for future stewardship and retention needs.
    • Attend a post-camp wrap-up meeting shortly after the completion of camp to evaluate the week and brainstorm ways to improve the following year.

    Definition of full time and part time volunteers as they apply to this job description:

    • Full time: any volunteer who commits to the entire week of camp from staff training to the last designated day.
    • Part time: any volunteer who comes in intervals throughout the week to assist with specific functions of camp

    The ideal candidate:

    • Prior experience working with volunteers, volunteer management, recruitment and assignment of volunteers to support an existing program is preferred.
    • Demonstrates strong leadership, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Is organized with particular attention to detail.
    • Maintains a professional, friendly and helpful attitude during all times while on-site at camp.
    • It is a requirement to be on-site at camp from Saturday training until after camper/families exit the following Saturday (sleep over at camp for the full week).
    • The chosen Volunteer Director will undergo a Criminal Background check and must adhere to the CNW Code of Conduct, Child Protection Policies and HIPAA Privacy Laws.

    Term: 2-3 years. This position is a year round volunteer camp position. Camp No Worries takes place during the last week of June each year. 2026 dates are Saturday, June 20-27th.
