    Description

Help Keep Seniors Connected! Communications & Social Media Volunteer for SouthEast Seattle Senior Center

At the SouthEast Seattle Senior Center (SESSC), we believe that aging should be full of connection, dignity, and joy. Nestled in the heart of Rainier Valley, SESSC is a vibrant, diverse community hub where older adults gather for meals, exercise, classes, social events, and vital resources that help them live independently and stay engaged with their neighbors. For some members, the SESSC is their primary source of connection and care, a place where they can see friends, learn new skills, and feel a true sense of belonging.

We’re looking for a Communications & Social Media Volunteer who can help us share stories, promote programs, and keep seniors and their families connected to the center’s offerings. Your creativity and communications skills will directly support a mission-driven organization that makes a difference in the lives of hundreds of older adults every year.

    What you’ll do:

    • Create and schedule social media posts (Facebook & Instagram) highlighting daily activities, events, and community resources
    • Design simple flyers for classes, events, and services using Canva (or a similar tool)
    • Help build a consistent, senior-friendly communications plan

    What you’ll experience:

You’ll collaborate with a small, dedicated team who care deeply about the seniors they serve. You’ll play an important role in helping older adults stay informed about everything from community lunches and wellness classes to support services and social gatherings. Your work will help a senior discover a weaving arts class that flexes their creative skills, a caregiver learn about foot care therapy and mobility, or a new member feel welcomed into a supportive community.

    Who we’re looking for:

    • Strong written and communication skills with a warm, approachable tone
    • Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram)
    • Basic design skills (Canva or willingness to learn)
    • Organized, reliable, and able to work independently
    • A heart for building community and supporting older adults

    What to expect:

    • Time Commitment: ~2 hours per week
    • Location: Fully Remote-Friendly & Flexible—you can volunteer virtually from home, come in person to the Senior Center (4655 S Holly St, Seattle, WA 98118), or choose a hybrid approach
    • Schedule: Flexible—work on your own time while staying in touch with staff
    • Duration: Ideally 9-12+ months

This is a meaningful opportunity for someone who enjoys social media & light design work and wants to use their professional skills to enrich the lives of seniors in one of Seattle’s most diverse neighborhoods.
