    Deputy Director of Chapter Operations

    Our Mission:

    We are building a Gen Z-led movement seeking to empower young leaders to advocate for transformative policy and bold political action, predominantly at a state and local level. We are committed to a bottom-up movement that prioritizes the needs of the communities we represent and seeks to reclaim our future by advocating for social, economic, environmental, and other kinds of political reform.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Deputy Director of Chapter Operations is considered a Departmental position and reports directly to the Director of Chapter Operations. In the event of a vacancy in the position of Director of Chapter Operations, the Deputy Director of Chapter Operations shall assume the position of Acting Director of Chapter Operations. This role supports the development and expansion of youth-led chapters across the country by identifying opportunities for new chapter formation, engaging with prospective chapter leaders, and contributing to sustainable, strategic growth. Working closely with the Director, Department staff, and other members of the Leadership team, the Deputy plays a central role in identifying, onboarding, and overseeing new and existing chapters, developing accessible and impactful resources for those chapters, and maintaining systems that ensure our expansion efforts are intentional, values-driven, and aligned with Beyond the Ballot’s greater strategic priorities. Ideal candidates are passionate about youth-led organizing, progressive movement-building, and supporting emerging leaders. They bring strong communication, organizational, and relational skills to a fast-paced, collaborative environment, and are excited to help shape the future of a growing national movement.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION:

    • High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or technical school preferred

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

    • Prior work in the non-profit sector is highly preferred.

    • Experience in youth-led organizing, community engagement, or grassroots movement-building is a strong plus.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Work directly with the Director of Chapter Operations to identify and advocate for chapter needs through hands-on guidance, issue support, and oversight.

    • Ensure that chapters are equipped with the resources, tools, and support necessary to lead successful and impactful programs and services.

    • Work to align chapter activities with national campaigns, broader organizational strategy, and Beyond the Ballot’s core values.

    • Help the Department provide mentorship and day-to-day support to chapter leaders, while helping uphold the organization’s bylaws and accountability structures.

    • Handle chapter-related matters with professionalism, care, and discretion to maintain trust and confidentiality.

    • Work with the Director of Chapter Operations to interpret and enforce Beyond the Ballot’s chapter-related policies and procedures.

    • Collaborate with the Director of Chapter Operations and other departments/divisions to develop resources that support chapter sustainability and leadership development.

    • Work across Departments and Divisions (e.g., policy & advocacy, communications, strategic development) to support chapter integration into national campaigns, strategic priorities, and initiatives.

    • Represent the Chapter Operations team in meetings, trainings, or events as needed.

    • Contribute to the development of strategic plans and priorities that promote long-term chapter health, equity, and growth.

    • Assist the Director with tasks on an ad-hoc basis.

    • Act as second in line to the Department of Chapter Operations, assuming the position of Acting Director of Chapter Operations in instances where a vacancy occurs.

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    Vision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods.

    Hearing: Ability to tolerate exposure to noisy conditions.

    Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communications and over the phone or computer.

    Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.

    Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgment and ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records; manage stress effectively.

    Remote Work Requirements: Regular access to a stable internet connection is required.

    Additional Work Conditions: Ability to adapt between various in-person working environments. May require travel to multiple states.
