    Description

SASA is looking for a Volunteer Researcher for our Archeogaming Team to assist in facilitating the creation and implementation of our Archeogaming Education Program. See the Program Overview for more information.

The leader will work closely with the Archaeogaming Education Program Team Leader to research and develop SASA Archaeogaming Learning Modules for use in schools and universities.

Archaeogaming features experts exploring video games that were inspired by the ancient world. SASA’s Archaeogaming Education Modules (AEMs) will consist of complete lesson plans, videos, and materials for one school period that use video games with ancient-related content to explore themes and ideas of ancient history and society. The Researcher will conduct research and writing as well as data collection and analysis in order to support these modules and participate in the creation of the videos and complementary educational materials as necessary.

The Researcher will participate in the development of videos and educational materials, ensuring that content is both engaging and informative. At the direction of the Team Leader, the Researcher will then edit the materials as necessary. AEMs will further support SASA’s efforts to continue building partnerships with educators and institutions across the country and globe.

All meetings take place via video call and all work is done remotely. Expected work hours are 10 per week. As Researcher for the Archeogaming Team, you will help research, writing, and analysis towards the creation of new modules and support for existing modules. The Researcher will work closely with SASA’s Archaeogaming Education Program Team Leader and other necessary individuals to successfully complete and disseminate these modules and the information they contain.

This position is most well-suited to an Ancient Studies graduate student or Early Career Scholar interested in video games and ancient history “archaeogaming,” who wants to conduct in-depth research analyzing how video games portray ancient cultures and histories and their use education of the Ancient World. Those with a background in academic research, particularly in areas related to Ancient History and digital humanities or game studies, are encouraged to apply. People with research experience who are currently not affiliated with a university are also welcome to apply. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, as well as the ability to work independently on emerging research projects and inquiries.

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct research for AEM intellectual content.
    • Conduct writing and presentation.
    • Participate in development of script guidelines, editing of scripts and lesson plans.
    • Participate in preparing for video-editing.
    • Assess and incorporate feedback.
    • Attend team meetings.
    • Other duties as assigned.
