    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City nonprofit committed to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability. Through mentorship, literacy development, academic enrichment, leadership programs, creative expression, and youth-centered initiatives, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people can thrive.

MAP’s Youth Ambassador Program empowers middle and high school students to lead service projects, support MAP events, build leadership skills, and serve as youth representatives of our mission. Youth Ambassadors serve as role models within MAP programs and as young changemakers for their communities.

    About the Role

We are seeking a Youth Ambassadors Coordinator to lead, support, and expand MAP’s Youth Ambassador Program across both in-person (MAP Roots) and virtual (MAP Connect) platforms. This role oversees recruitment, training, weekly engagement, leadership development, communication, and goal-setting for youth ages 10–18.

The ideal candidate is passionate about youth empowerment, leadership development, and community engagement—and is skilled at building trust, structure, and motivation among young leaders.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and orientation for Youth Ambassadors.
    • Facilitate weekly leadership sessions, training workshops, and Ambassador check-ins.
    • Support youth in developing projects, service initiatives, and leadership goals.
    • Collaborate with MAP Roots and MAP Connect teams to place Youth Ambassadors in meaningful roles.
    • Create youth-centered activities that promote confidence, communication, teamwork, and responsibility.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for Ambassadors and families, maintaining weekly communication.
    • Monitor attendance, engagement, and growth benchmarks for each Ambassador.
    • Provide positive coaching, mentorship, and accountability to support youth development.
    • Manage Ambassador schedules for events, volunteer opportunities, and special projects.
    • Build culturally responsive, inclusive practices that celebrate youth identity and voice.
    • Maintain clear documentation, progress notes, and program updates for leadership.
    • Check and respond to emails daily, with responses within 48 hours.
    • Take responsibility for performance improvement by integrating feedback and consistently refining coordination processes.

    Qualifications

    • Passion for youth leadership, mentorship, and community engagement.
    • Experience working with middle and high school students (education, youth development, social work, mentoring, leadership coaching, or related fields).
    • Strong communication, organization, and facilitation skills.
    • Ability to lead engaging workshops and group discussions.
    • Ability to motivate, coach, and support youth in a positive and restorative manner.
    • Culturally responsive and committed to equity-centered youth work.

    Bonus Skills (Not Required)

    • Experience developing leadership curricula or youth workshops.
    • Experience with youth councils, ambassador programs, or student leadership groups.
    • Bilingual or multilingual (Spanish or Haitian Creole preferred).

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week.
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred.
    • Hybrid: New York City and/or remote via Google Meet.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Direct experience leading a youth leadership and empowerment program.
    • Opportunities to shape MAP’s youth voice and future youth initiatives.
    • Collaboration with MAP’s education, mentorship, and community engagement teams.
    • Professional experience in youth development, leadership training, and program coordination.
    • Letters of recommendation and professional references.
    • The fulfillment of helping young leaders discover their voice, purpose, and power.
