    Description

Society of Young Inklings equips the next generation of storytellers with the community and creative tools they need to thrive. As part of the Board of Directors, you'll support our mission to guide youth writers as they discover, cultivate, and share their one-of-a-kind voices. Through your engagement on the board, you’ll support the organization’s health, sustainability, and ability to serve a growing community. You will use your expertise to provide guidance and support strategic decision-making, and develop relationships to enhance fundraising and strategic partnerships.

    Role

    • Be familiar with SYI’s mission, purpose, programs and goals.
    • Positively promote the work of the organization and advocate for its interests.
    • Attend at least 75% of each year’s monthly Board meetings.
    • Personally aid in expanding the exposure of SYI to your private networks and make and enhance relevant connections.
    • Contribute through value-driven insights and advice.
    • Provide unbiased insights and ideas from an outside point-of-view (not involved in the operation of the business).
    • Coordinate special events and community outreach activities.
    • Assist Executive Director with public relations/marketing duties including contacts with businesses, community organizations and the media.
    • Serve as agency liaison with the community to develop supportive relationships.

    Commitment

Board members will invest 4 - 12 hours monthly on board related tasks, to include:

    • Attend a monthly meeting
    • Engage in mission-connected work, conversations, and learning
    • Support fundraising efforts, most of which are US based
    • Cultivate relationships with key donors through quarterly, personalized outreach
    • Research opportunities, pro bono resources, and similar organizations
    • Stay up to date with Society of Young Inklings’ current work
    • Engage in special projects, as they fit your interest, time and capacity

Board members are asked to financially support the organization with an annual contribution that is a workable and meaningful amount for your circumstances. Your participation allows us to continue to be a 100% giving board, which is vital to our ability to effectively fundraise from outside sources.

    Organization Advocacy

The most essential responsibility of board members is to be an advocate and champion for the Society of Young Inklings, ensuring that awareness of our program grows so that we can more efficiently and effectively accomplish our mission.
