    About YIAW

    Youth Ideas at Work (YIAW) is a youth innovation nonprofit empowering young people through STEAAM education, creative problem-solving, and ethical technology development. We are reviewing a Business Requirements Document (BRD) for a youth-focused platform and are seeking a cybersecurity or data privacy professional to help strengthen youth safety protections.

    Role Summary

    We are seeking a volunteer with experience in cybersecurity, data privacy, or compliance to review our platform design documentation and identify potential risks. This is a short-term project role focused on protecting student data and ensuring safe platform practices.

    Responsibilities

    • Review BRD sections related to student data handling
    • Identify privacy or platform safety risks
    • Advise on account protection and consent workflows
    • Flag youth safety concerns in system design
    • Recommend practical data protection safeguards
    • Provide written or verbal feedback

    Ideal Background

    • Cybersecurity analyst or IT security professional
    • Data privacy or compliance experience
    • GRC / risk management background
    • EdTech or nonprofit safeguarding experience (a plus)
    • Experience working with youth platforms (a plus)
