    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a NYC-based nonprofit serving children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, and creative expression. Art is not decoration at MAP — it is how children process, heal, imagine, and tell their stories.

MAP’s visual identity, educational materials, books, media, and spaces all rely on thoughtful, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive artwork.

    Role Overview

The MAP In-House Artist is a central creative role responsible for bringing MAP’s mission to life visually across programs, publications, and platforms. This artist works across children’s books, curriculum materials, digital media, social campaigns, and physical spaces to ensure MAP’s visual language is warm, dignified, joyful, and emotionally safe for the children and families we serve.

This role sits at the heart of MAP’s creative ecosystem and collaborates with editorial, education, communications, and film teams.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Create original artwork for MAP’s children’s books, curriculum, and storytelling projects
    • Design visual assets for digital media, social campaigns, newsletters, and community outreach
    • Support visual development for films, podcasts, and youth storytelling initiatives
    • Maintain MAP’s visual style, tone, and character consistency across projects
    • Ensure all artwork reflects trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and child-centered values
    • Collaborate with writers, educators, filmmakers, and communications teams
    • Support production-ready files for print and digital distribution

    Preferred Skills

    • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Procreate, or similar tools

    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration
