    Description

    2020 Winter E-Cycle Event

Start the Year with a Great Volunteer Opportunity to Help the Environment

On Saturday, January 10, 2026, the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center will host its annual Winter E-cycle Event.

This is a drive-through in the Aquarium’s East Parking Lot. Volunteers are needed to assist with greeting patrons, collecting recyclables, and directing traffic. You should be able to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods. Volunteers must be on-site from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This is a great family and team volunteer opportunity. The event is on, rain or shine.

Volunteers are required to sign up. Please go to the registration form and follow these instructions:

-First, determine if you are an individual, a team member, or a team captain.

-Individual - Participants who are volunteering independently and not with anyone else. Continue to the next step.

    • Participants under 18 may not register as Individuals. Even a parent registering with a child is considered a Group, with the Parent as the Team Captain.
    • All minors must be at least 13 years old and accompanied by a parent or designated adult.

-Group Two or more participants who want to volunteer together.

    • Each Group must have a Name and one person assigned as the Team Captain.
    • All others in the Group are Team Members.
    • After determining if you are a Team Captain or a Team Member, continue completing the form.

Registration ends at Noon on Tuesday, January 6, unless we reach the maximum number earlier. An itinerary will be sent to all registered volunteers by Thursday, January 8, 2026.

    About the Event

Patrons can recycle old cellphones, personal electronic items, unneeded prescriptions, vehicle batteries, cardboard, plastic bags, resealable plastic bags, case overwrap, bubble wrap, and more. Live Christmas trees will also be collected. The collected trees will be repurposed for mulching and used throughout the City of Virginia Beach. Acceptable trees must be bare and live-cut trees from households.

Participating vendors include Goodwill Industries, AAA Tidewater, Virginia Beach Police Department, and the 911 Cellphone Bank, where old cellphones will be refurbished and donated to victims of human trafficking.
