    Description

Puppy Raiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind

No prior experience is necessary to become a puppy raiser; we will help you through the process every step of the way! Volunteer puppy raisers welcome their charges into their homes when the pups are approximately 8 weeks old, and return them to our campuses between 13 and 18 months old. Raisers are responsible for teaching the puppies good house manners and basic obedience, and most importantly, socializing them to the world. It is a rewarding, emotional experience, and a commitment for which Guide Dogs for the Blind is extremely grateful. As a puppy raiser, not only will you discover the delight of a four-footed, wet-nosed companion, you will join a community of like-minded people all working toward improving the quality of life for people who are blind or visually impaired.

    • *We love when puppy raisers have pets in their home, as long as they are friendly to other dogs!**
    • *Student volunteers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to all meetings**
