    Description

    English Literacy Tutor for Adults

Make a difference in someone’s life by volunteering as an English Literacy Tutor for adults!

The South Bay Literacy Council (SBLC) is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to teaching adults to read, write and speak English in the South Bay, Los Angeles area. Students’ goals determine session structure--some tutors coach English conversation in small groups, while others work one-on-one with a student to improve their reading skills.

You’d commit to meeting weekly with your student(s)

We'll provide training, lesson ideas, and support.

We ask volunteers to make a 9-month commitment due to the time it takes to train and match tutors with students.

    To Volunteer:

    • Attend Volunteer Information Meeting (via Zoom)
    • Submit Volunteer Application
    • Complete tutor training (approx 4 hours)
    • Be matched with student(s) based on mutual availability
