    Description

    Reports to: Executive Director

    Hours: 3–5 hrs/week

    Commitment: 6–12 months minimum

    Role Summary

    Supports survivors navigating the legal system by providing non-legal assistance such as court accompaniment, form completion, safety planning, and connecting survivors with certified legal advocates, attorneys, and protective resources. This role does NOT provide legal advice—it offers trauma-informed support and resource guidance.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Accompany survivors to civil court (orders of protection, custody hearings, hearings tied to DV cases) when appropriate
    • Assist survivors in completing basic legal paperwork (without giving legal advice)
    • Guide survivors through safety plans and document organization
    • Coordinate with certified legal advocates, attorneys, and partner agencies
    • Maintain strict confidentiality and documentation according to agency policies
    • Provide emotional grounding and supportive presence during court-related events
    • Support the development of legal resource guides, referral lists, and educational materials
    • Report all survivor interactions to the Executive Director following confidentiality protocol
    • Use trauma-informed communication at all times

    Qualifications

    • Experience in advocacy, criminal justice, social services, or community support preferred
    • Ability to remain calm and grounded in high-stress situations
    • Strong communication and listening skills
    • Understanding of domestic violence dynamics & safety procedures (training provided)
    • Must maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
    • Must complete background check and mandatory DV training

    Commitment Details

    • 3–5 hours weekly (varies based on court schedules)
    • 6–12 month commitment
    • Completion of agency-provided training in trauma-informed advocacy
