    Description

    The Shaker Historical Society is seeking friendly, reliable volunteers to serve as Tour Guides. In this role, you will lead engaging and informative tours for adult visitors ranging from college students to seniors, sharing the history, culture, and significance of our site, collections, and city. Tour Guides play a key role in creating meaningful experiences that educate, inspire, and connect guests with the community’s rich history.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead public and private tours for adult visitors in the museum and neighborhood, adapting content and style to meet the interests and knowledge levels of diverse audiences
    • Present accurate historical information about exhibits, collections, and local history
    • Foster a welcoming and enjoyable environment for all guests
    • Answer questions and facilitate discussion where appropriate
    • Collaborate with staff and fellow volunteers to ensure consistent, high-quality guest experiences
    • Maintain professionalism, courtesy, and enthusiasm in all interactions
    • Assist with set-up, clean-up, and logistical needs for tours as requested

    Qualifications:

    • Interest in history, museums, culture, and/or public engagement
    • Comfortable speaking to groups of various sizes
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to learn and accurately share interpretive content provided during training
    • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or with others
    • Must pass a background check
    • Must be able to ascend/descend stairs to access second floor galleries
