    Description

BOARD MEMBER--THE MUSEUM OF TEACHING AND LEARNING--To enact its mission, MOTAL shares stories ABOUT teaching and learning through multiple platforms: traveling exhibitions, weekly articles, internships, and podcasts. MOTAL has a working Board that is active in planning and operations.

MOTAL seeks to expand the Board of Directors to enable better oversight of the organization’s museum-related functions, including public engagement and development of productive partnerships. The Board currently numbers four members. It has always been small and flexible. The Founding Director and some Board members and advisors provide a strong foundation in educational theory, practice, and policy to serve the mission of the organization. Additional Board members have expertise in organizational and financial management and strategic planning. Meetings take place about once a month at the MOTAL gallery/office.

The Board needs this additional expertise:

    • LAW AND HR

Specifically for nonprofits and independent contractors.

    • WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Policy, strategy, and marketing through the MOTAL website and social media posting.

    • CONNECTIONS TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Access to government and community funding and resources. Ability to build partnerships and cultivate venues for MOTAL’s mobile exhibitions.

    • MUSEUMS AND THEIR AUDIENCES & COLLECTIONS

Bring expertise to MOTAL and best practices for our artifacts and exhibits.

    • PHILANTHROPIST/RAINMAKER

Ability to develop relationships with funders and ability to “give” or “get” funds

    • EVENTS & EXHIBITION PLANNING

Ability to support the scheduling of our mobile exhibitions with a variety of venues and the planning of educational events.
