    Women of Color on the Move (WOCOTM) is a nonprofit public benefit organization committed to empowering historically marginalized communities by advancing health equity, economic empowerment, education, and social justice. Since its founding in 2014, WOCOTM has delivered community-based education, advocacy, prevention, and support programs addressing issues such as substance abuse, maternal and child health, youth development, financial literacy, and community engagement both in the U.S. and internationally.     This mission-driven organization seeks a skilled legal professional to serve in a strategic volunteer leadership role on the Board of Directors.

    Position Overview

    We are seeking a mission-driven Chief Operations Officer (COO) – NGO Partnerships to serve as a Board-appointed officer and member of the Board of Directors.

    This role provides strategic governance oversight and operational leadership for NGO partnerships, community-based initiatives, and external collaborations. The COO – NGO ensures that partnership-driven programs operate with accountability, regulatory compliance, strong performance management, and alignment with the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability.

    The COO – NGO works collaboratively with executive leadership, board members, internal teams, and external partners to translate strategic objectives into efficient, scalable, and mission-aligned operations.

    This is a non-paid, volunteer board leadership position.

    Key Responsibilities

    Operational Strategy & Systems Leadership

      • Develop and execute operational strategies supporting NGO partnerships and community-based programs.
      • Design, implement, and continuously improve workflows and operational systems.
      • Align operational practices with mission, strategic priorities, and partnership requirements.

    Partnership & NGO Operations Management

      • Provide oversight of operational coordination with NGO partners and community collaborators.
      • Establish clear standards, roles, and accountability structures for partnership-based initiatives.
      • Ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery across collaborative programs.

    Administrative Oversight & Compliance

      • Oversee documentation, reporting, and compliance related to NGO initiatives.
      • Ensure adherence to nonprofit regulations, grant requirements, and contractual obligations.
      • Support audits, compliance monitoring, and operational reviews.

    Performance Management & Continuous Improvement

      • Develop and monitor operational performance metrics and dashboards.
      • Analyze operational data to identify risks, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
      • Implement corrective actions and scalable process enhancements.

    Leadership, Collaboration & Organizational Growth

      • Collaborate with executive leadership to support program expansion and strategic growth.
      • Provide guidance to staff, volunteers, and project teams supporting NGO initiatives.
      • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

    Additional duties may be assigned as organizational needs evolve.

    Volunteer Role Notice

    This is a non-paid, volunteer leadership role. Individuals serving in this capacity are not employees of the organization and do not receive financial compensation or employment benefits. Time commitment expectations and responsibilities will be mutually agreed upon in writing.

    Qualifications

    Education & Credentials

    Required:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Public Administration, or a closely related field.

    Preferred:

      • Master’s degree (MBA, MPA, or equivalent).

    Preferred Certifications:

      • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
      • NGO Operations, International Development, or Partnership Management certification.
      • Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher).

    Experience & Expertise

      • Minimum 7+ years of senior-level operations leadership experience.
      • Demonstrated experience managing NGO, partnership-based, or community-focused operations.
      • Proven ability to design and scale operational systems across collaborative initiatives.
      • Experience working with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
      • Strong understanding of compliance, grant requirements, and risk management in partnership environments.
      • Nonprofit or grant-funded environment experience strongly preferred.
      • Commitment to ethical governance, accountability, and mission-aligned leadership.
