    Division: Storytelling & Media

Location: Remote and/or New York City (depending on filming needs)

    Type: Volunteer (Unpaid)

    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, literacy development, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people can thrive.

The Storytelling & Media Division leads MAP’s creative and narrative vision across multiple platforms, including our children’s storytelling projects, short films, podcast series (The Bells I Hear), digital story series (Threads of Voices), and MAP’s YouTube Channel. Our mission is to amplify youth voices and build meaningful stories that inspire empathy, belonging, and hope.

    About the Role

We are seeking a YouTube Production Lead to oversee the creative direction, production workflow, publishing strategy, and audience engagement for MAP’s YouTube channel. This role blends filmmaking, digital strategy, storytelling, and youth-centered content development.

You will work closely with filmmakers, animators, writers, puppeteers, editors, and the communications team to create powerful, high-quality videos that advance MAP’s mission and expand our digital footprint.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead production, scheduling, and creative planning for MAP’s YouTube channel.
    • Develop a content calendar featuring storytelling videos, children’s book animations, interviews, behind-the-scenes media, short documentaries, and youth-centered content.
    • Oversee filming, editing, and publishing workflows to ensure high-quality and timely output.
    • Collaborate with filmmakers, animators, writers, and the Storytelling & Media team on script development, storyboarding, and narrative direction.
    • Manage channel branding, thumbnails, captions, playlists, and metadata for optimal visibility and accessibility.
    • Analyze viewer engagement, retention, and channel analytics to improve content strategy and performance.
    • Coordinate with MAP’s Social Media Manager to align YouTube content with broader digital campaigns.
    • Maintain ethical storytelling standards when working with youth stories.
    • Check and respond to emails daily, ensuring all responses are completed within 48 hours.
    • Take responsibility for performance improvement by refining creative workflows and implementing channel growth strategies.

    Qualifications

    • Experience in video production, digital storytelling, or YouTube content creation.
    • Strong understanding of YouTube best practices (SEO, thumbnails, playlists, titles, analytics).
    • Proficiency in filming and editing software (Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve, or similar).
    • Strong creative direction skills with a strong eye for pacing, narrative, and visual storytelling.
    • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with filmmakers, illustrators, storytellers, and media producers.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.

    Bonus Skills (not required)

    • Experience producing youth-centered or educational videos.
    • Motion graphics or animation experience.
    • Background in documentary or social-issue storytelling.

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role requiring approximately 5–10 hours per week.
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred.
    • Hybrid: remote editing/planning with optional in-person filming sessions in NYC.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Leadership experience managing a digital media platform for a mission-driven nonprofit.
    • Creative collaboration with a dynamic team of filmmakers, designers, animators, writers, and youth storytellers.
    • A strong portfolio of published, high-impact video work.
    • Professional references, mentorship, and skill development.
    • The fulfillment of using media to uplift youth voices and drive meaningful change.
