    Description

Services for the UnderServed (S:US) is a non-profit organization that believes that every New Yorker deserves to know home in NYC. S:US works with communities and individuals in every corner of the city and on Long Island to make sure every New Yorker has the chance to find home. S:US serves tens of thousands of New Yorkers each year facing poverty, homelessness, and life with disabilities. We create pathways to rich and productive lives through high-quality housing, employment, skills-building, treatment, recovery, food security, and eviction prevention services.

This position is at S:US’ main office that helps the organization run smoothly. We are currently seeking a volunteer to assist the Office Operations Manager to ensure the day-to-day efficiency of the location. Volunteers would provide essential support to the overall upkeep and smooth operation of the office by handling packages and mail and assisting with light maintenance tasks. Volunteers must be able to carry 30 pounds comfortably. This would be an ongoing volunteer position with a minimum commitment of once a week for at least 4 hours.

    Responsibilities:

    • Transporting outgoing mail to the post office
    • Applying postage to mail
    • Replenishing office supplies
    • Assisting with light on-site maintenance tasks (Ex. replacing light bulbs, tightening loose door handles, etc)
    • Supporting the daily delivery of packages and mail

    Preferred Skills:

    • Understanding of confidentiality
    • Organizational skills
    • Basic handyman skills
    • Ability to follow instructions independently

Because volunteers will be working with confidential information, they are required to undergo background checks and fingerprinting. They will be invited to complete a volunteer application and interview before being on boarded. Please contact Volunteer@sus.org if you have any questions.
