    Description

    Emergency Department Volunteer - San Leandro Hospital

    Volunteers working in the Emergency Department get a first-hand look at the procedures and functions of a high-volume modern Emergency Department. Basic volunteer duties include comforting patients, transporting patients, pharmacy and lab runs, helping to remake gurneys and beds, and restocking supplies. Excellent opportunity for those working toward a career in healthcare.

    STEPS TO BECOME AN ALAMEDA HEALTH SYSTEM VOLUNTEER

    Step 1: Consider the Commitment

    We require a commitment of one 4-hour shift per week for a minimum of one year. All volunteers start off at the information desk and are required to complete 100-hours of service prior to transferring to a patient care floor volunteer position. The first 100-hours is required to be completed between 8am & 5pm, between Monday & Friday.

    Step 2: Submit Application

    Step 3: Interview

    We will contact you to setup an interview within a week or two.

    Step 4: Orientation

    If accepted, you will be invited to attend an orientation covering both hospital and Volunteer Department policies, procedures, and other important information.

    Step 5: Health Screening

    After the orientation you will be able to make an appointment with AHS Employee Health. Volunteers are required to provide proof of immunity by immunization record or by titer(s) - blood tests for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (chicken-pox). Additionally volunteers are required to show documentation of a tuberculosis skin test (TST) performed elsewhere within the past 12 months and 1 within the past 3 months. AHS Employee Health can provide the second TB test for free.

    Step 6: Background Investigation

    Volunteers are required to go through a criminal background screening after the Health Screening is completed.

    Step 7: Now you can get your badge and start!
