    Volunteer Social Media Manager

    Organization: Our Kids Read

    Location: Remote (U.S.-based)

    Commitment: 1-2 hours per week (flexible)

    About Us

    Our Kids Read is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to sparking the joy of reading in K–5 students in underserved communities. Since 2021, we’ve donated over 150,000 diverse books, launched Free Book Festivals, and paired students with mentors through our Reading Buddies Program. We believe that literacy is the gateway to changemaking—empowering children to lead, empathize, and thrive.

    The Role

    We are seeking a passionate Volunteer Social Media Manager to help amplify our mission and engage a growing online community of parents, teachers, corporate partners, and changemakers. This is a volunteer position—ideal for someone eager to use their digital skills for social impact while gaining nonprofit experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Content Creation & Scheduling
      • Draft and schedule posts across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X (Twitter).
      • Share student success stories, volunteer spotlights, book giveaways, and event highlights.
    • Community Engagement
      • Monitor comments, messages, and mentions, fostering a supportive and inclusive online community.
      • Interact with partner organizations and volunteers to strengthen our digital network.
    • Campaign Support
      • Assist with social media campaigns tied to fundraising, literacy awareness months, and book festivals.
      • Coordinate with staff to highlight milestones, media coverage, and new partnerships.
    • Analytics & Strategy
      • Track engagement metrics and suggest improvements.
      • Experiment with creative formats (short videos, reels, graphics, etc.) to increase reach.

    Qualifications

    • Strong written communication skills and a creative voice.
    • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X).
    • Experience with Canva, Buffer, Hootsuite, or similar tools (a plus).
    • Organized, responsive, and able to meet weekly content deadlines.
    • Passion for literacy, education equity, and uplifting children’s voices.
