Are you retired and looking to establish a routine that respects your down time but allows you to use your well-earned skills and intellect to make your community a little better every day!
We love and embrace retirees of all ages to join us by meeting a new friend(s) within 5 to 7 miles of your home. What would you do? Grab and go with a few extra items when you get your own groceries, go for a walk with me when the weather is nice or help me sort the junk mail and find the necessary papers. When the weather is nice take me to a farmer's market or the local park. You can make a new friend and do some good work because You are RETIRED not EXPIRED - And I NEED Your Help. Click now and then tell a friend who you know is perfect for this opportunity.
I want to be sure that you are aware of the recommended commitment – a minimum of 4 hours per month for six months is preferred –If you have special circumstances, we can discuss work-arounds. You can call me with any questions at 860-602-4129.
Below is information about BESB volunteer positions and an application is attached. Please complete the entire application and return it with a copy of your driver’s license.
BESB will request a driver history and conduct a state police* criminal history check as well as a personal and professional reference check. An orientation will follow. Once you are confirmed as an eligible volunteer, a client will be assigned to you. You will be responsible for contacting them and setting an individualized schedule that meets their needs and matches your availability. You will be asked to submit a time sheet once per month that details the dates and hours of your visits. It’s that EASY!!
Again, thank you for your willingness to assist this agency and the individuals we serve. Your generous volunteer spirit will make a difference for your blind neighbor!
Sincerely,

BESB VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Driver/Visitor/Shopper: BESB clients need help with sorting mail, identifying the bills and shredding the junk mail. Volunteers help with reading books and periodicals, sales circulars and fliers. Go to the grocery store together and help by reading labels, prices, nutrition content or preparation instruction. Some clients just need a friendly visitor to provide community integration and socialization or assistance with activities like putting away groceries or organizing household items.
