    Description

Content Creator — Online Community (Remote Volunteer)

    Community-Embedded Identity & Story Steward

    Remote · Volunteer · Flexible / Ongoing

    Description

AFK Cafe is a consent-based online community centered on creativity, connection, and sustainable participation. We prioritize presence over performance and community over extraction.

We are seeking Content Creators who are also active community participants to help represent AFK Cafe across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and other social spaces.

This role is about storytelling, identity, and atmosphere — not aggressive marketing.

We are not building an influencer brand or content farm. We are showing people who we are and how we gather.

To create content that genuinely reflects the Cafe, creators must spend time in the community and understand its tone, pacing, and culture. You do not need to be a moderator, but you do need to be part of the space.

    Who This Role Is For

This role is a strong fit for creators who:

    • care about storytelling over promotion
    • enjoy capturing tone, connection, and community atmosphere
    • want to grow creatively while contributing to something meaningful
    • are willing to spend time in the Cafe to understand what content is actually needed
    • can follow through and contribute consistently, even in small ways

This is a warm, collaborative space — but we are intentional about who joins this role.

Consistency, alignment, and presence matter more than output volume alone.

    What Content Creators Help With

    Content Creators may:

    • Create visual or video content representing AFK Cafe
    • Capture the tone and atmosphere of the community
    • Translate community identity into visuals or short-form media
    • Design graphics tied to monthly themes or lore
    • Create invitational posts that help people understand the Cafe
    • Highlight meaningful community moments
    • Occasionally support event-related posts in a non-sales way
    • Suggest creative ideas aligned with the Cafe’s identity

Content invites people into who we are — it does not advertise at them.

    Content Rhythm & Contribution

AFK Cafe maintains a steady daily presence across platforms so people can consistently see and recognize who we are.

Content Creators contribute to a shared content pool that allows posts to be scheduled throughout the week by Social Media Stewards.

We aim to have enough content created weekly to support consistent posting. This does not mean any one creator is responsible for posting daily.

Creators contribute at a sustainable pace, which may look like:

    • batch-creating multiple pieces at once
    • contributing a few pieces weekly or monthly
    • helping build a rotating content library
    • supporting themed or event moments

Consistency across multiple creators allows the Cafe to maintain daily visibility without pressure on any single individual.

Quality and alignment matter more than volume.

    Community Participation Expectation

    Content Creators should:

    • spend time in the Discord
    • observe and engage naturally
    • attend events occasionally when able
    • understand the tone and culture of the Cafe

Content should come from lived experience inside the community, not outside interpretation.

You are not expected to be constantly active — just present enough to understand the space.

    What This Role Is Not

    • Not corporate marketing
    • Not engagement farming
    • Not influencer work
    • Not a daily posting requirement for one person
    • Not a high-pressure content quota
    • Not required to be on camera
    • Not required to be a moderator

This is collaborative, sustainable creative work.

    How We Work Together

    Content Creators collaborate with:

    • Admin
    • Social Media Stewards (who handle scheduling/posting)
    • Event teams
    • Outreach roles

Creative direction is collaborative and values-based. Feedback is supportive, not performance-driven.

    Time Commitment

    Flexible and capacity-based

    Ongoing volunteer role

Create when inspired or aligned with availability

    Consistency over intensity

    Skills Helpful (Not Required)

    • Graphic design or digital art
    • Video editing or short-form content
    • Photography
    • Creative writing or captioning
    • Social media familiarity
    • Visual storytelling

Alignment with the Cafe’s tone matters more than professional experience.

    Why This Role Matters

Content is often the first doorway into AFK Cafe.

When it reflects real community experience, the right people recognize themselves here.

We are not trying to go viral.

We are building something recognizable, human, and lasting.

    Other Requirements

    • Must be 18+
    • Willingness to participate in the community space
    • Respect for boundaries and consent
    • Collaborative mindset
    • Reliability in communication and contribution

How to Volunteer for This Opportunity

    Application & Alignment Process (Important)

To be considered for a moderator role, you must join the AFK Cafe Discord.

Applications submitted without joining the Discord will not be reviewed, and no follow-up will be initiated.

AFK Cafe is a values-led community. If someone joins the Discord but does not show interest in learning about the cafe, its values, or the people who make up the space, we are unable to assess true alignment. In those cases, applications will not move forward.

This step is not a test. It is an invitation to experience the community before committing to a leadership role.

    Next Steps

    1. Submit the interest application

    1. Apply to join the AFK Cafe Discord

When you join, please mention that you came from Idealist so we can connect you to your application.

    1. Explore the community

You will be encouraged to spend time getting a feel for the environment, values, tone, and population of the cafe.

    1. Follow-up & placement

If there is mutual alignment, a follow-up application or conversation will clarify interests, capacity, and next steps. There is no pressure to proceed.

    Alignment matters more than speed.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to join the AFK Cafe Discord to be considered?

Yes. AFK Cafe is a live, relational community. Applications will not be reviewed unless the applicant has joined the Discord. We do not follow up on applications submitted without Discord participation.

Why is joining the Discord required?

Moderation at AFK Cafe is grounded in presence, values, and real interaction. Joining the Discord allows both you and the team to assess whether the community feels like a good fit before moving forward.

What does “explore the community” mean?

It means spending some time observing and engaging—reading channels, joining conversations, attending an event, or asking questions. You are not expected to perform or prove yourself, only to show genuine interest in understanding the space.

What if I join but do not participate much right away?

That is okay. We are not looking for instant visibility. However, if there is no demonstrated interest in learning about the cafe, its values, or its people, we will not be able to assess alignment and the application may not proceed.

Is this a competitive or fast-moving process?

No. We prioritize alignment, capacity, and sustainability over speed. There is no pressure to move forward if the fit is not mutual.

Will someone contact me after I apply?

Only if the application and Discord presence indicate potential alignment. Not all applications receive follow-up.

    Is this a paid role?

This is a volunteer role with opportunities for leadership experience, skill development, and professional reference upon request, based on role performance.

Who is this role best suited for?

People who enjoy shared experiences, value community care, communicate reliably, and want to help create spaces that feel both welcoming and well-held.
