    The People’s Justice Project (PJP) builds the power of black and brown people disproportionately affected by state violence, mass criminalization, and incarceration by centering community organizing and leadership development.     Program Overview

    The PJP Organizing Revival Internship Program is a leadership development and community organizing program for high school students, college students, or anyone who wants to learn the craft of organizing. Interns will gain hands-on experience in grassroots organizing, political education, and campaign strategy while contributing to the fight against state violence and mass incarceration.

    Role Overview

    PJP Organizing Revival Interns will work alongside staff and volunteers to strengthen our base of community support in Columbus and beyond. Interns will engage in community outreach, recruit and engage volunteers, participate and lead trainings and presentations in the community, and help lead efforts to challenge state violence and build Black and Brown political power.

    Responsibilities

    • Base-Building and Community Outreach (50%)
      • Recruit and motivate new PJP leaders.
      • Engage with community members with a friendly and respectful approach.
      • Attend community meetings, organizational events, and public forums to build relationships and learn about the community and political landscape.
      • Participate in and support door to door canvassing, tabling at community events, phone/text banks, and community actions.
      • Register new voters and help voters update their registration
      • Track and report data on volunteers engaged and goals achieved.
      • Represent PJP with professionalism and clarity in public spaces.
    • Trainings and Membership Development (45%)
      • Attend core trainings on topics like: Organizing 1on1, History of PJP, Power Analysis, Relational Organizing/1on1s, Voter Registration, What is Black Power?, etc.
      • Help lead introductory trainings
      • Help identify potential leaders
      • Participate in PJP Base Squad
      • Engage with other PJP members on shared projects
    • Administrative Support (5%)
      • Complete administrative tasks and documentation in a timely manner.

    Qualifications

    • Some experience in community or campus organizing (field teams, grassroots campaigns, or student organizations) strongly preferred.
    • Strong communication and listening skills.
    • Event planning or leadership experience is a plus.
    • Commitment to racial justice and working with marginalized communities.
    • Lived experience in communities impacted by state violence is highly valued.

    Skills

    • Intermediate: Writing, problem-solving, time/project management
    • Basic: Social media, public speaking, data entry

    • School-sponsored service or internship programs
    • Field study or practicum requirements
    • Course credit for experiential learning

    If your program requires documentation or supervision, our team will coordinate with your school to meet those requirements so you can receive credit while building community power.
