Social Media Content Creator (Volunteer) — Nonprofit
We’re seeking a mission-driven Social Media Content Creator to help amplify our nonprofit’s impact across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube Shorts. This is an unpaid, volunteer position focused on creating short-form video, graphics, and copy that tells powerful stories, engages our community, and supports campaigns and programs.
You will plan and produce platform-native content from concept to post, including scripting, editing, simple motion/graphic design, and caption writing. You’ll maintain a light content calendar, jump on relevant trends, and adapt assets to each platform’s best practices and accessibility guidelines. You’ll also help with community management by responding to comments and messages, coordinate with program staff to surface stories, and track basic performance metrics to learn what resonates.
You have a genuine passion for our mission with experience creating social content for a cause, club, school project, personal brand, or organization or be open to learning on the job. You’re comfortable editing with mobile-first tools (e.g., CapCut or similar), and writing clear, compelling captions and hooks. You understand the fundamentals of short-form video, thumbnails, and storytelling, and you’re organized enough to meet light, flexible deadlines.
Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva, basic motion graphics, simple photography, or social analytics; familiarity with accessibility best practices (alt text, captions, color contrast); and an eye for trends that align with our values.
This role is flexible and remote-friendly. We suggest up to 20 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months, with occasional availability for timely posts around campaigns. We’re happy to adjust based on your schedule.
We offer mentorship and feedback from experienced staff or advisors, letters of recommendation and LinkedIn endorsements upon successful completion, credit on select published content when appropriate, and opportunities to collaborate with program teams and partner creators.
This is a volunteer, unpaid position with no expectation of compensation or future employment. Volunteers may end their service with a weeks notice with a handover period to the new incumbent. We provide brand guidelines, messaging pillars, content templates, access to approved assets, and a point of contact for quick reviews and coordination. If necessary, we can supply a nonprofit Canva account.
We’ll look at reach and engagement growth relative to our baseline, content consistency against the agreed calendar, audience sentiment and community responsiveness, and contribution to campaign goals such as event signups, donations, or volunteer inquiries.
We are looking for two people to share the workload.
Please share your resume and a short note on why this mission matters to you.
