    Description

    Volunteer with the American Red Cross in our  Service to the Armed Forces department as an (IHL) International Humanitarian Law Outreach Team Member

    This position supports the Regional Service to the Armed Forces department. The purpose of this position is to promote the IHL Dissemination program to public audiences. Individuals in this position should work to network with target audiences about the IHL program and assist the region’s in setting up IHL Dissemination classes and events. Volunteers in this position will be responsible for supporting and developing of the outreach strategy, expanding regional awareness and resources, developing new contacts and volunteers and, effectively networking to grow the IHL Dissemination program. Demonstrating commitment and understanding of IHL, the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement’s responsibility in disseminating IHL, and the importance of IHL understanding in the public will be key responsibilities of this role.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Responsible for supporting the development of an outreach strategy to grow IHL programming on a regional level.
    • Expand community awareness and resources
    • Identify potential speakers on relevant topics to speak at regional IHL education events. (These types of events are similar to topic-specific seminars)
    • Develop new volunteer and community contacts (grow the region’s IHL network)
    • Work closely with Regional team, IHL Lead, IHL instructors, and position supervisor to share knowledge, support relationship building, and help recruit volunteer instructors where necessary
    • Identify potential audience groups for IHL classes and events. These include like-minded community groups and non-profits, local legal organizations, universities, law schools, community colleges, etc.
    • Promote the importance of IHL program to the general public.

    Development Opportunities

    This position offers the opportunity to develop an array of professional skills including public speaking, networking, event management, logistics, educational development, and capacity building for your region. In addition, the outreach team member can contribute meaningfully to a program that effects many different sectors of society and the world.

    Individuals in this program will also be able to contribute in a direct way in ensuring that the American Red Cross obligation to disseminate IHL to the public is the most effective and reaches the most amount of people.

    Qualifications

    • Familiarity with the IHL Dissemination program (types of outreach events, instructor classes, types of classes, etc.)
    • Desire to support the American Red Cross mission and obligation to disseminate IHL information to the general public.
    • Working knowledge of the Red Cross Lines of Services
    • Ability to work independently with diverse populations, in a culturally competent manner and to embody the Red Cross fundamental principles including impartiality and neutrality.
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Interest or experience in public speaking, creating presentations or educating interested parties on IHL program(s).
    • Proficiency with Microsoft products, familiarity with marketing tools and resources (i.e. social media, Eventbrite, internal newsletters, etc.)
    • Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies.
