    Description

    Overview

Fruitslice is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented volunteer to join our submission management team. This role is central to the operational and organizational backbone of our editorial processes. We're looking for someone who will work to ensure that all aspects of our literary workflow run smoothly and collaboratively.

    Responsibilities

    Submission Managers work collaboratively to:

    • Oversee Editorial Logs: Keep all editorial logs accurate, current, and consistently updated.
    • Manage Incoming Submissions
      • Use Submittable and Google Sheets to organize and track all submissions.
      • Apply appropriate tags and log key submission details.
      • Assign pieces to the appropriate review teams and follow up with reviewers to ensure timely completion of review forms.
      • Confirm that submitters have provided all necessary information; follow up when information is missing or unclear.
      • Monitor and meet all editorial deadlines.
      • Communicate between contributors and editors about the status of accepted submissions
    • Maintain the Miro Board:
      • Log accepted submissions on the Miro board with all necessary specifications to support editorial planning.
      • Track total projected page count to help the editorial team stay within issue limits.
    • Collaborate with Design:
      • Keep design informed throughout the editorial process so layout and production remain on track.
    • Engage with Literary Conversations:
      • Participate in editorial discussions with a focus on operations, submission flow, and management.
    • Support Other Departments:
      • When submission volume is low, assist with other projects or cross-team initiatives as needed.

    Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

    • Has a strong literary background and an understanding of editorial processes.
    • Is detail-oriented and enjoys organization, structure, and clear communication.
    • Is proficient in tools like Slack, Zoom, Submittable, Miro, and Google Sheets.
    • Is a self-starter who thrives in a remote, asynchronous environment with occasional Zoom meetings and regular Slack updates.
    • Aligns with Fruitslice’s mission of fostering Queer voices and understands the urgency of our work in the face of systemic silencing and erasure.
    • Is comfortable with a workload that fluctuates (e.g., busier post-submission deadlines, lighter during off periods).

    What We Offer

    • A deeply fulfilling opportunity to contribute to a bold, Queer, and unapologetic literary mission.
    • Flexibility to accommodate global time zones and fluctuating schedules.
    • Optional open Zoom hours for connection, collaboration, or questions.
    • The chance to be part of a collaborative, creative, and driven team working to uplift marginalized voices.
    • Career development

    Commitment

    • Remote & Flexible: Work asynchronously, with occasional Zoom check-ins.
    • Variable Workload: Expect more intensive work around submission deadlines and lighter workloads during quieter periods.
    • Minimum commitment of 6 months.

    We Especially Encourage Applications From:

QTBIPOC individuals, Disabled people, and others from marginalized communities. Fruitslice is committed to creating an inclusive and celebratory environment that reflects the diversity of the voices we amplify.
