    Description

Combine the Magic of Reading Aloud with the Power of Positive Mentoring!

Read to a Child combines the magic of reading aloud with the power of positive mentoring! We're looking for volunteers to join our Read Aloud Mentoring Program at the following LAUSD Partner Elementary Schools in the Downtown LA area and in Hollywood:

Esperanza Elementary - Wednesdays from 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm

Vine Street Elementary - Wednesdays from 11:40 am - 12:10 pm

After completing our onboarding process, you will participate weekly to mentor the same student week to week to help a reluctant reader fall in love with reading! Our program also addresses the socio-emotional needs of students by supporting them with extra 1:1 attention from a caring adult who keeps showing up for them. Learning loss from the pandemic is still plaguing our students, along with all of the uncertainties we are facing day to day.

Students fell behind dramatically during the pandemic, leaving teachers struggling to catch them up. Now more than ever, students need the extra attention from a caring adult to help get them back on track.

Volunteers connect with their student over lunchtime by reading and asking engaging questions. We provide all training and support. Looking for kind, patient volunteers who love books and want to make a difference in a child's life!!
