Volunteer Needed – Make a Meaningful Difference! 🌟
A kind, legally blind woman living in a remote area near Canterbury, CT is looking for a compassionate volunteer to help with simple but important tasks:
🚗 Occasional driving – she keeps a car for you to use!
🛒 Grocery shopping
📬 Reading and sorting mail
👟 Going for walks or scenic rides
💬 Friendly visits and conversation
She has her own car and just needs a caring companion to help her stay connected and independent. If you or someone you know has a few hours a week to spare, this could be a truly rewarding opportunity to brighten someone’s life.

You will make a measurable and lasting impact assisting with activities like grocery shopping, reading mail, forms and paperwork and taking occasional outings with a neighbor who is blind. Let’s both fill our hearts with thoughts of others and get you started with your new friend.
I want to be sure that you are aware of the recommended commitment – a minimum of 4 hours per month for six months is preferred –If you have special circumstances, we can discuss work-arounds. You can call me with any questions at 860-602-4129.

Below is information about BESB volunteer positions and an application is attached. Please complete the entire application and return it with a
Copy of your driver’s license; and a
Copy of your auto insurance DECLARATION PAGE showing minimum coverage amounts of $50,000/$100,000 for liability and $5,000 for property damage. FROM YOUR ACTUAL POLICY - NOT IN THE GLOVE BOX
BESB will request a driver history and conduct a state police* criminal history check as well as a personal and professional reference check. An orientation will follow. Once you are confirmed as an eligible volunteer, a client will be assigned to you.You will be responsible for contacting them and setting an individualized schedule that meets their needs and matches your availability. You will be asked to submit a time sheet once per month that details the dates and hours of your visits. It’s that EASY!!

BESB VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Driver/Visitor/Shopper: BESB clients need help with sorting mail, identifying the bills and shredding the junk mail. Volunteers help with reading books and periodicals, sales circulars and fliers. Go to the grocery store together and help by reading labels, prices, nutrition content or preparation instruction. Some clients just need a friendly visitor to provide community integration and socialization or assistance with activities like putting away groceries or organizing household items.(Does not include house cleaning or personal care.)
