    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability. Through mentorship, literacy development, academic enrichment, creative arts, social-emotional learning, policy engagement, and community-centered innovation, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people can thrive.

The Development & Advancement Division is responsible for building MAP’s sustainability, cultivating supporters, and ensuring that every program—from MAP Roots to MAP Connect, PromisePlay, Threads of Voices, and PromisePress—has the resources needed to grow and serve youth across New York City.

    About the Role

We are seeking a Fundraising Lead to oversee community fundraising efforts, donor engagement strategies, and seasonal giving campaigns. The ideal candidate is organized, mission-driven, and excited to build pathways for supporters to invest in MAP’s work.

This role is perfect for someone with experience in fundraising, event coordination, donor relations, or nonprofit development who wants to help strengthen MAP’s long-term impact.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead the planning and implementation of MAP fundraising campaigns (seasonal, digital, community-based, and event-driven).
    • Develop donor engagement strategies to cultivate, retain, and steward individual supporters.
    • Coordinate small-scale fundraising events, online drives, and community giving initiatives.
    • Collaborate with the Marketing Division to produce donor communications, promotional materials, and impact stories.
    • Maintain tracking of donor interactions, contributions, and engagement patterns.
    • Create outreach materials (emails, letters, scripts, social media copy) for campaigns.
    • Work with the Grant Writing Team to support holistic development efforts when needed.
    • Prepare simple progress reports to share fundraising outcomes with leadership.
    • Build relationships with potential donors, partners, and community supporters.
    • Check and respond to emails daily, with responses within 48 hours.
    • Take responsibility for performance improvement by integrating feedback and adjusting strategies.

    Qualifications

    • Experience in fundraising, development, donor relations, marketing, or nonprofit operations.
    • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks, timelines, and priorities.
    • Strong writing and storytelling skills for donor-facing materials.
    • Comfort with collaborative teamwork and cross-departmental coordination.
    • Passion for youth empowerment, equity, and MAP’s mission.

    Bonus Skills (not required)

    • Experience with CRM systems or donor databases.
    • Experience coordinating fundraising events or campaigns.
    • Background in marketing, communications, or community organizing.
    • Bilingual or multilingual abilities (Spanish or Haitian Creole preferred).

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role, 5–10 hours per week.
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred.
    • Hybrid: In-person in NYC and/or remote via Google Meet.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Leadership experience in nonprofit fundraising and development.
    • Hands-on involvement in donor stewardship and campaign strategy.
    • Collaboration with MAP’s marketing, communications, and program teams.
    • Opportunities to develop strategy, write donor communications, and plan events.
    • Letters of recommendation and strong professional references.
    • The fulfillment of building a financial foundation that directly impacts youth experiencing homelessness.
