Senior Product Designer

Virtual Hospitals Africa is looking for a senior volunteer to design user experiences that will connect millions of Africans to healthcare.

We are a non-profit addressing a vital healthcare gap in rural Africa. Our telemedicine platform links frontline workers with global specialists, enabling continuous care, early risk detection, and improved patient outcomes.

The Role

As our Senior Product Designer, you will shape the user experience of our core medical platform, ensuring intuitive and accessible design for healthcare workflows in rural settings.

What You’ll Do

• Own complete product modules and user flows based on defined product requirements
• Work within our design system to ensure consistency across the platform
• Collaborate with an international team of engineers, designers, and healthcare professionals
• Deliver high-quality designs quickly in a supportive, fast-paced environment 🚀

About You

• You are a passionate advocate for equal access to quality healthcare
• You have 3+ years of experience
• You demonstrate strong visual and UX skills in your portfolio
• You go beyond visuals, handling complex user flows and clearly articulating your design decisions
• You think strategically about how features fit into the broader user experience

Required Skills & Tools

• Figma
• Strong understanding of UI patterns
• Responsive design
• Prototyping
• Accessibility principles
• Ability to prioritise information and create clear hierarchies
• Basic familiarity with Tailwind CSS
• Healthcare UX experience is a plus

Position Details

• Volunteer role, 10+ hours per week
• Flexible working hours, long-term engagement preferred (minimum 6 months)
• Fully remote, work from anywhere
