    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, and creative expression. Accessibility is not an afterthought at MAP—it is a core commitment to dignity, inclusion, and equity.

MAP’s programs, educational materials, and work environments are designed to ensure volunteers and the young people we serve can fully participate and thrive.

About the Disability Justice & Accessibility Team

The Disability Justice & Accessibility Team works across the organization to embed Universal Design, accessibility, and disability justice into MAP’s programs, policies, and workplace practices.

    Role Overview

We are seeking an Accommodation Manager to serve as a central resource for volunteer accommodation requests. This role supports volunteers by helping assess accommodation needs, guiding implementation, and ensuring MAP’s practices reflect disability rights law and ethical accessibility standards.

The Accommodation Manager will familiarize themselves with the ADA, Section 504, the Fair Housing Act, IEPs, and workplace accommodations, and will work collaboratively with team leads to ensure volunteers receive the support they need to contribute meaningfully and comfortably.

    • Serve as an accessibility resource for volunteers across the organization
    • Participate in weekly meetings with the Disability Justice & Accessibility Team
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via email and chat in Google Workspace

    • Ability to synthesize accessibility policy and guidance in an approachable manner
    • Comfort collaborating across teams in a mission-driven environment
    • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience advocating for disabled individuals, or lived experience as a disabled person
    • Familiarity with ADA, Section 504, IEPs, and workplace accommodations
    • Familiarity with Universal Design principles
    • Experience in HR, social work, education, or nonprofit environments
    • Experience liaising with individuals and team leadership
