Ideal Volunteer Characteristics:
Help provide clients with comfort and safety after disasters by supporting the day-to-day activities within a shelter. This may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other areas within a shelter.
As a Shelter Service Associate, you’ll help create a safe, welcoming environment for people displaced by disasters. Volunteering in Red Cross shelters, you’ll support day-to-day operations—whether it’s greeting clients, assisting with registration, serving meals, managing dormitory spaces, or providing information and support.
No experience needed! Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4 to 12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts, is required.
