    Description

    The World Disaster Center is a global humanitarian organization committed to reducing the impact of disasters through preparedness, rapid response, and resilience building. We partner with governments, NGOs, and local communities to deliver innovative solutions that protect lives, livelihoods, and the environment.

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a dedicated Volunteer Legal Adviser to provide strategic legal guidance on the Center’s operations, partnerships, and compliance with local and international legal frameworks. This role is crucial to ensuring our work meets the highest legal and ethical standards in multiple jurisdictions.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide expert legal advice to leadership on contracts, agreements, and compliance issues.
    • Draft, review, and negotiate MOUs, partnership agreements, and service contracts.
    • Ensure adherence to nonprofit, humanitarian, and cross-border legal requirements.
    • Advise on data protection, intellectual property, and digital platform regulations.
    • Guide policy development for governance, ethics, and risk management.
    • Assist with the legal aspects of funding arrangements and donor agreements.
    • Monitor relevant international law, UN conventions, and disaster legislation.

    Qualification

    • Licensed lawyer (any jurisdiction) or highly experienced legal professional.
    • Strong background in nonprofit, humanitarian, or international law preferred.
    • Proven experience in contract negotiation and compliance.
    • Knowledge of cross-border legal issues, disaster law, and UN frameworks.
    • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • Comfortable working in a multicultural, international team environment.
