Join Leave It Better Community Garden and NYC Parks GreenThumb for a hands-on workday to reorganize the garden’s tool shed, build simple metal raised beds, and other seasonal activities. Leave It Better Community Garden was organized in 2010 to engage and educate local youth and families in environmental stewardship and cultural preservation. This group of volunteer gardeners is seeking more volunteers who are interested in becoming members and helping with general maintenance, upkeeping open hours, and hosting public events. No prior experience necessary. Spanish-speaking skills are a plus!
Please wear sturdy work shoes and warm clothing and bring water and snacks. Note: Some tasks may involve lifting heavy materials and extended periods of bending, squatting, and moving.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to Sunday, January 18, 11 A.M.-3 P.M. Registered volunteers will be notified 1-2 days before the scheduled event.
For information about group volunteering, please contact the GreenThumb Volunteer Program, at GT.volunteer@parks.nyc.gov.
This event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. GreenThumb community gardens are organized, led, and cared for by dedicated volunteer gardeners who critically upkeep them as public green spaces. With GreenThumb’s support, community gardens are centers of environmental justice, ensuring that our city is fairer, safer, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.
