    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability. Through mentorship, literacy development, creative expression, storytelling, and community-centered innovation, MAP creates platforms where youth voices, lived experiences, and community wisdom are honored and amplified.

MAP’s storytelling initiatives—including The Bells I Hear and Threads of Voices—use audio, narrative, and dialogue to explore themes of youth resilience, housing justice, creativity, policy, culture, and human dignity.

    Why This Role Matters

The Podcast Producer plays a critical role in shaping how MAP’s stories are told, heard, and shared. This role exists to ensure that podcasts are thoughtful, ethical, well-produced, and grounded in care—especially when telling stories connected to youth, families, and lived experience.

This is not content for clicks. It is storytelling with responsibility.

The Podcast Producer helps create safe, respectful spaces for conversation while maintaining high production quality and consistency.

    What You’ll Do

    • Lead production of MAP podcast episodes from planning through release.
    • Coordinate episode scheduling, guest outreach, recording logistics, and timelines.
    • Support hosts with episode outlines, research, and run-of-show planning.
    • Oversee recording sessions (remote and/or in-person) to ensure quality audio and respectful dialogue.
    • Edit or coordinate editing of audio content for clarity, pacing, and tone.
    • Ensure episodes align with MAP’s values: dignity, consent, cultural responsiveness, and care.
    • Collaborate with marketing and social media teams on episode promotion.
    • Manage podcast calendars, files, and documentation.
    • Support publishing to platforms such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube.
    • Maintain ethical storytelling practices, especially when youth or sensitive topics are involved.
    • Check and respond to emails daily, with responses within 48 hours.
    • Take responsibility for performance improvement by integrating feedback and refining production workflows.

    How MAP Supports You

    • Clear role scope, expectations, and creative collaboration
    • Respect for time, capacity, and boundaries
    • Thoughtful, mission-driven storytelling environment
    • Constructive feedback and creative autonomy
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • Recognition of your work as skilled, meaningful contribution

    What We’re Looking For

    • Experience in podcast production, audio storytelling, media production, or journalism.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills.
    • Comfort working with hosts, guests, and creative teams.
    • Ability to manage timelines and multiple episodes.
    • Sensitivity when working with personal stories or community narratives.
    • Commitment to ethical, inclusive, and trauma-informed storytelling.

    Bonus (Not Required)

    • Audio editing experience (Audacity, Adobe Audition, Logic, Pro Tools, etc.)
    • Experience publishing podcasts or managing YouTube audio/video content
    • Familiarity with storytelling for nonprofits, advocacy, or community media
    • Bilingual or multilingual abilities (Spanish or Haitian Creole preferred)

    Commitment & Boundaries

    • Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Remote via Google Meet, with optional NYC-based collaboration
    • MAP values consistency, clarity, and sustainability—not burnout
