A Free Bird is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City. We empower children diagnosed with cancer to explore their artistic passions through music, art, writing, performance, and other creative outlets. By supporting creativity, we help young people build confidence, resilience, and hope during their healing journey.
Role Overview
The Management Associate supports organizational leadership by assisting with cross-department operations, project coordination, and process improvement initiatives. This role is ideal for someone with prior operations or coordination experience who is ready to take on increased responsibility, exercise sound judgment, and contribute to organizational planning and execution.
Working closely with leadership and department managers, the Management Associate helps ensure workflows remain organized, priorities stay aligned, and initiatives move forward efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Support leadership with cross-department project coordination and follow-up
- Assist in monitoring workflows, deadlines, and deliverables across teams
- Help develop, document, and improve internal processes and operational systems
- Prepare summaries, reports, and internal documentation for leadership review
- Coordinate meetings, track action items, and support implementation of decisions
- Collaborate with department leads to identify operational gaps and improvement opportunities
- Leverage digital tools and AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT) to streamline reporting, documentation, and communications
- Serve as a reliable point of contact between leadership and operational teams
Skills & Qualifications
- 1–2+ years of experience in operations, project coordination, administration, or business support (professional or volunteer)
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a remote environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
- Comfortable learning and applying AI tools and digital systems to improve efficiency
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Professional, proactive, and detail-oriented mindset
